The perennial question – Why do we travel? For some, it is a break from the routines of work and everyday life; for others, it’s a way to learn about new cultures; and yet for others, it’s just a way to get away from it all. Quotient TravelPlanner\'s team and our clients share their photos and stories in this section and invites you to send in your contributions. Send us a captioned picture of you on your travels and we"ll post them up here to share with the rest of the travel community.

Round The World with Tan York Sin: Rio de Janeiro

RiodeJaneiro

During the 17th Century when sugar cane was the primary export, upon completion of the processing, the finished product was packed into bread-like loaves for shipment; hence the name Sugar Loaf Mountain. This photograph was taken in a cable car rising to the mountain top. However, this is not the only way up. If you enlarge this picture large enough, you can find two rock climbers ascending the Sugar Loaf Mountain in a rather unconventional way.

O Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) is a statue of Jesus Christ located at the peak of Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park of Rio de Janeiro. With a height of 29.9 metres, it is the tallest of its kind in the world.

Copacabana is located in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro, famous for its 4-km beach which is one of the most famous of the world. This photograph was taken while I was strolling along Copacabana beach one evening. The footballers were still vigorous, though there were obviously less people hanging around the beach area, as compared to the day.
