From gigantic glaciers to looming mountains and sprawling deserts, Chile is the land of extreme landscapes. A voyage to the country warrants a hike in the Torres del Paine National Park, where snow-dusted mountains, sparkling azure lakes and bountiful wildlife come together in a picture-perfect combination; an exploration of the Atacama Desert with its salt lakes, erupting geysers and night sky observatories right in luxury lodges; and a visit to the vast Llanquihue Lake for some kayaking and horseback riding. Hop aboard the adventure bandwagon and hike the lava-filled crater of Villarica Volcano, rappel through waterfalls, try your hand at quad biking or seek out Humboldt penguins, pumas or other wildlife in their natural habitats on a private tour.
For something more relaxed, tour the streets of the colourful Valparaíso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site by the coast whose beauty evocates dreamy wonder, or kickback with refreshing glasses of Chile’s signature tipple, pisco, in the fertile Elqui Valley. Chile is also reportedly home to the world’s largest swimming pool; bob your worries away there before heading to Santiago for an intimate by-invitation-only meal personally prepared by celebrity chef Emilio Peschiera.
