About India

From red hot curries to the scorching desert to crowded bazaars loaded with colourful spices and saris, India is a country of extremes. Feel the assault on your senses as you tuck into a meal prepared by a celebrity MasterChef at an ancient fort, sample nutmeg, cardamom and other spices at the local markets and scrutinise the intricate workmanship of precious stones and glazed tiles that decorate lavish palaces – including those of the world-famous Taj Mahal.
Meet descendants of one of India’s kings or Maharajas and take a sunset cruise on Lake Pichola where royals and elites have erected palaces and mansions along the shore and on islands that you can visit. Immerse in the local culture with a visit to a tea factory or a famous Hindu temple, learn about ancient Hindu epics through a Kathakali dance performance, tour spice and rubber plantations on a bullock cart, or cruise down the Kerala canal in a traditional houseboat. During the cooler season, venture into the Thar Desert on camelback or on a jeep safari and admire the fiery glow of the sunset against rolling sand dunes.

Staying at a desert camp in Manvar was also an eye opening experience and we enjoyed the outdoor night performance of music and dance.Andrew & Lynn – January 2014
