Destination of Choice: Southern France, Self-drive
First of all, thanks again for all your help in putting together our itinerary and for the great tips that made this holiday a truly enjoyable one. Weather was also almost perfect. Sunny but cool. Dropping this note to share some of the highlights of our trip:
Avignon Leg: We explored a number of towns while there. We found the following most interesting: Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Bonnieux, and also discovered a small town – Lourmarin. It is a pretty town with a castle you can visit and interesting shops and art galleries. It’s not a big town, so it can be explored in 3 hours.
For the guided day tour of Provence, Gordes and Rousillon were really interesting. Les Baux de Provence was fun, kinda like San Gimignano but even more touristy. They included L’Isle sur la Sorgue in the day tour too. This town is interesting and made so much more fun because of its antique/flea market. Our timing was perfect because the day tour was scheduled on Sunday, when they hold the antiques market. There is a small bakery across the L’Eglise Saint Fermin in Gordes – one of the best pastries we’ve ever had!
Dordogne and vicinity: Probably one of our favourite regions, and we would have wanted to spend another one or two days to explore the vicinity. Lots of interesting towns and sights.
Thank you for the suggested accommodations. The hotel at Dordogne was great. It’s such a wonderful bed-and-breakfast place, and Malcolm and Elizabeth, the couple who owns and runs it were wonderful, and they were very helpful in giving us tips on interesting sites and places to visit. This would definitely be a good recommendation for your other clients who would like to have a bed-and-breakfast experience.
